Speed is key!

I embrace speed as my operating philosophy, preferring quick action over lengthy deliberation. Rather than building weaknesses, I focus on strengths. This approach shapes my business decisions and client interactions at alt. While I value design perfection, I advocate for efficient execution in small business marketing. My new venture, Merch Kings, embodies this speed-first mentality.

Speed is Key: Embracing Efficiency in Business and Decision Making

I'm not sure how the 'speed is key' catchphrase came about, but I certainly do love it a lot! Recently, especially, I've started embracing it significantly, and it's my new basis for operating alt., making decisions in general and managing productivity. I suppose in a way, it's about working with my strengths rather than trying to build up my weaknesses.

The Genius of Working to Your Strengths

Like one of Gina's favourite Einstein quotes:

"Everyone is a genius, but if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it's stupid"

In other words, I sometimes have a short attention span; I don't like long, drawn-out meetings, pondering, debating, being wasteful and messing around to get something done.

Action Over Perfection

I'd much rather get something going and then improve on it later. That's been the whole philosophy of alt. and the way I've encouraged clients to operate. Some people are generally inclined to hesitate and overthink things or search for the "perfect" design or the exact website plan. I do understand that mindset because I certainly appreciate design perfection and love brands like Apple and Tesla that have nailed their product and brand design, but I think when it comes to small business and marketing on a budget, you don't have that luxury. You can either waste your time or find someone willing to waste theirs, but one thing I want to get across in this article is that important balance between being arrogant or indifferent with demanding efficiency and results.

The Efficiency Paradox

I see it all the time - people attempting to be "busy" purely for the sake of it. Sales people are notoriously bad at this. I just checked my voicemails for the first time in a few weeks and there were five from one person, yet this person didn't realise that perhaps it would be better to email me, so no business got done. Ironically, this was actually a service I could have used and did need, but because they weren't aware enough to use my preferred contact method, they lost the sale.

Understanding Personal Work Styles

It comes down to your own personality type, though. If you've ever done the DISC personality profile test (or similar), you'll know what I'm talking about, but some personalities do like methodical decision making and that's their way of operating. I think I'm just going to attempt to take this to the extreme and continue rolling with it.

I love it so much it's the basis of my new venture, Merch Kings. The first order has been placed today with the blank apparel already ordered, so it'll be interesting to see how quickly we can turn around the order, without excuses, without any motivation other than being as fast as possible!

Tomorrow is the last day of the 30-day blog challenge. I can't believe it actually. It's gone quite quickly!
