A Day in the Life: Managing Video Shoots and Business Growth
It's been a while since the last post. As per a recent video on my public Facebook page, I'm going to make an effort to create regular content for a set amount of time before re-evaluating.
Sharing Our Journey
This blog is a place to share what I'm working on and tell the story of growing a business, including both the ups and potentially some of the downs. Although keeping it upbeat and positive is important, and I don't like dwelling, negatives and "learning" experiences are where the growth occurs and where you actually pay attention, versus being given advice or reading about something—at least for me, though some people might be different.
Today's Packed Schedule
Today, Wednesday 17 June, was an absolute stunner, and it was jam-packed. Between a half-day video shoot in the afternoon and evening (more on that later), we received a handful of new leads—one a referral, one a Google ad lead, and one a sporadic serendipitous encounter.
We managed two sales meetings with prospective clients already in our sales funnel. It sounds a bit corporate saying it like that, but it is what it is. Additionally, we sent out three digital marketing proposals and a few smaller design quotes.
There was also some coordinating of the West Coast video shoot next week, which will likely involve a helicopter! We managed to book another two shoots as well. Along with the general team responsibilities, admin and other personal matters, it's no wonder I'm feeling rather drained at 10 pm—excited and optimistic, but drained.
Behind the Scenes at Maharaja
A special mention goes to Mack, who ran the video shoot at Maharaja brilliantly. There were several moving parts, but he was prepared with a shot list and action plan to get things done. Some talent cancellations meant improvising along the way, but I'm very proud of him and how tonight went. Until you've attempted to run a shoot like that—essentially herding cats—you don't truly appreciate the difficulty of it for an untrained amateur.
At one point during the shoot, I noticed Chris was spending time with Raj, the client. I was handling some admin work, Tim was gaining access to Raj's AdWords account, and Dan was back in the office working (I think he was—he might have been enjoying the office whisky, or perhaps both). It was a really solid team effort, and the different working environment made it particularly interesting.
That's all for tonight—keep an eye out for more content coming soon.
